Soma by TonightBC@aol.com Opening chords: You see a grassy field. It's full of flowers and looks generally happy, except that there's a bit of a blue overtone to everything. Billy lays in the sunshine looking very depressed. He clutches a grey blanket and you see him lift it over his head to keep out the sun. Close-up of his face under the blanket; he sighs deeply. Time moves really fast (sun rises, sets, rises, sets, etc.. many times) outside the blanket. Clouds slowly move in until it's completely overcast. "Nothing left to say": Billy removes the blanket, stands up, and starts spinning around with his arms straight out. "And all I've left to do": Cut to D'arcy in a long white dress, sitting by a lake. It's overcast there too and she's picking petals off a daisy. "Is run away from you": She picks the last petal off and sighs sadly. "And she led me up, down": A gust of wind carries the stem away and it lands in the lake but causes no ripples. "With secrets I can't keep": Cut to James wandering through a forest, with skies still overcast. He's dressed in really shabby, torn clothing and he shivers from the cold wind. "Close your eyes and sleep": James sits down on a rock in a glade and huddles into a ball, trying to keep warm. Close-up of his face as you see him close his eyes. "Don't wait up for me": Back to Billy. He's still spinning, faster and faster. "Hush now don't you speak to me": We happen to notice that he's spinning in the general direction of a large cliff. He's either laughing or crying as he spins. "Wrap my hurt in you": As Billy's right about to spin off the cliff, we.... "And took my shelter in that pain": ...cut to D'arcy. She has bare feet and she sticks her toes in the water to see how cold it is. "The opiate of blame": Immediately as she does this, her foot turns to ice and it starts spreading up her leg. She panics. "Is your broken heart": She struggles but can't move. The ice moves farther up her body. "So now I'm all by myself": Finally, D'arcy has completely turned to ice. She looks particularly lovely like this, like a statue of a goddess. "As I've always felt": Back to James. He wakes up and finds himself still sitting on the rock. He stands up and wanders out of the forest... "I'll betray my tears": ...and finds himself in Billy's flower field. He sees the grey blanket on the ground and picks it up and wraps it around his shoulders. "To anyone caught in our ruse of fools": He keeps wandering around, still shivering, although not as badly as before. "One last kiss for me, yeah": Billy stops spinning just as he reaches the edge of the cliff. He looks to the sky and lets out a blood-curdling scream. "One last kiss good night": We see a hand (probably James') reaching out palm up and a couple rain drops fall into it. The quiet part: Warm rain starts to fall everywhere and we see D'arcy's ice starting to melt away. James looks skyward, obviously thankful for the warmth of the rain. "Didn't want to lose you once again": Lightning strikes a tree in the forest and it goes up in flames. Suddenly, the sky is dark and rain is pouring down on everything. "Didn't want to be your friend": James looks back at this and runs to the fire. "Fulfilled a promise made of tears": He looks around for a minute, then throws Billy's blanket into the fire, as if this might put it out somehow. "And crawled back to you": D'arcy isn't far from the flames. She sees them drawing closer but the ice hasn't melted enough to let her move. "I'm all by myself": You can see her eyes looking around in panic through the ice. "As I've always felt": Billy is now standing in the middle of the field. He raises his hands above his head and puts them together. "I'll betray myself": You can see tears streaming down Billy's face. "To anyone": James runs all over the place trying to figure out what to do. Finally, he sees the lake nearby. "So let the sadness come again": He runs to the lake to get some water for the fire but happens to see D'arcy there. He knows her and the sight of her sends him into even more of a panic. "On that you can depend on me": He tries everything he can to chip away the ice. D'arcy is obviously panicking too, although she still can't move. Flames get closer. "Until the bitter, bitter end": Flames are just feet away from D'arcy and the ice starts to melt... except that she's melting with it. James can't figure out what's happening. "When god sleeps in bliss": D'arcy quietly melts away into nothing. James realized that his only choice to get away from the flames is to dive into the lake. "And I'm all by myself": Billy looks towards the fire just as James dives in. "As I've always felt": Billy frantically starts to pick flowers (and daisies, hint hint) and throw them into the fire in a futile effort to stop the blaze, which is now engulfing the entire forest. "And I'll betray myself": He looks up sadly and realizes that it's no use. Not knowing what else to do, he crumples to the ground. "To anyone": He still sits, sobbing. When the music gets quiet again, he looks up and realizes that the rain is starting to put out the fire. Soon, the fire is gone. He walks to where the lake used to be, but it's now just a dry pit. No James. No D'arcy. Rain falls on him still as he walks back to the cliff. He closes his eyes and silently falls backwards off the mountain. End of song.
