Rhinoceros (The Sleep) by Tmyers1922@aol.com As Drew pondered his life, or what was left of it in the cell he resided in, someone came inside his cell carrying what looked to be a hypodermic needle. He must have been making more noise than he thought. The man grabbed Drew's arm and rubbed alcohol on it. Drew didn't care. He was at his wit's end. Who knows? Sleep sometimes kills the pain......temporarily anyway. (Opening Music)-As the man injects Drew, Drew almost immediately nods off, mouth opening very slowly, very slowly falling back on the bed as if in slow motion. Yes, the pain was gone.......pain was gone........was gone......gone....(Drew sleeps) (Shot of band playing in what seems to be a mix of water and air at the same time) "Planned a show, trees and balloons" -(Drew's Dream: flashback, one year earlier)-Show's Drew and his girlfriend at the time, planning their marriage, looking at all kinds of decorations. It's December. "Ice cream snow, see you in......." -Drew looks outside to see that the snow on the ground looks like it...well, has a pink color to it. 'My imagination', he thinks. (As he thinks that, camera pans over to a calendar which slowly flips from December to June.) "June." -Days on the calendar begin to disappear. Disappearing all around their wedding date to be, June 3. "Your way, she knows......" -Drew starts to have this fear all of a sudden. Like....betrayal. 'Betrayal of what?', he thinks. He begins to have this eerie(sp?) feeling, that almost terrorizes him. A feeling of deja-vu, like he's done this before and it's being slightly altered in some way. Altered by his feeling of....betrayal? 'Is that it?', he thinks again. Meanwhile, his girlfriend is seen still looking through decorative ideas, not a thought or care in her. (Guitar Interlude) (Shot of band playing again in the misty water/air scene. As James plays, it's as if you can see the notes he plays flow in the air in a wavy, watery motion.) "Colors show, after the moon." -(Shot of the moon above Drew's house began to disappear into the clouds. Colors, of all kinds began to show all over the house in vibrant colors. Then a shot of Drew in his cell moving uncomfortably in his sleep.) "I should go, see you in June." -(Shot of Drew and his girlfriend holding each other in fear of the colors. Drew knows his feelings of fear and betrayal are true, 'But why? Why?', he contemplates. "Your way" -(Shot of calendar again with the days disappearing until the 3rd is the only day left. But when Billy sings 'way' it disappears. Then Drew and his girlfriend look at each other, they look at each other as if....they don't know each other anymore.) "She knows, she knows, she knows, etc.etc..." -Drew begins to back away from her, and she the same, scared, almost paranoid in the fact that their not alone. A wind picks up in the room. (Guitar Solo)-(Shot of the band again, focusing on Billy's solo. Now the notes that Billy plays out of the guitar are bright with color and resonance, his eyes shut in total concentration and emotion of the solo, hair in his face. Then a shot of Drew in his cell struggling, struggling to wake up. More shots of James, D'arcy, and Jimmy almost in one with each other, the rhythm is so wrapped up about them. "Open your eyes, to these must I lie?" -Now shows Billy in the cell pleading this question to him. Drew still struggles. (Shot of Drew's house again in chaos, things flying through the room, colors becoming so bright and blinding, they both can hardly see. "Open your eyes, to these must I lie?" -As the light fades, he finds he's at the wedding chapel, standing in front of the priest, with his bride to be, who speaks the vows to him. Those 7 words hammering his brain until he can't take anymore and runs out. "Your way" -Billy speaks this part in the cell in disappointment, as if he knew what was going on in the dream. "She knows....." -(Girlfriend looks back at her soon-to-be husband running away, looking in disbelief and a tear rolls down her face.) (Last guitar part)-(Drew runs and runs far away from the church, far away from his betrayal. Yes! He knows his betrayal now. And that somewhat relieves his pain. Enough to run away, just anywhere but back there....anywhere but back there....but back there....back there....there...) On the last guitar chord, he wakes up in an upright position. 'When will it be over!!', he screams to himself. He gets up to look out the window. It's dark. But he still sees something, the light of the moon shines on his face. 'It's him!' (Billy), Drew thinks. He looked to be riding away on something, something very large. He looked back once, with a crack of a smile or is that a smile upside down? "It's not over.", he mumbles and rides off in to the darkness. "Bury Me" is next. This one will be tough, but there isn't nothing like a challenge to make a man think. I'll mail probably Sat. or Sun.
