Farewell and Goodnight by jackyl@texoma.net okay, some stuff you should know: it's black and white: really crisp, sharp film, not grainy. the band is dressed like the beatles, and they've got the hair and beards (not d'arcy). why the beatles? i read somewhere that bc said that the song was a tribute to the beatle's goodnight, so......oh, it helps to have some old beatles albums lying around...you could probably get the pics on the net somewhere, though....you'll need the front&back covers of: abbey road, sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band, 1967-1970, hey jude. "[opening music]" the band, dressed as the beatles, is walking across the road like on the cover of abbey road...cept the vw bug is painted in a mcis-art motif... "goodnite, to every little hour that you sleep tite" billy, in a yellow submarine, floating in this trippy, 70-esque, cheesy background, singing these lines....no beard or anything, just plain old bald billy. "may it hold you thru the winter of long nite" billy, dressed like the beatles on the cover of sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band, with a few bums (also beatle-esque, but lots raggeder and dirtier) in a poverty-striken alley, huddled around a fire in a barrel....at nite, and in the winter--it's sleeting "and keep you from the loneliness of yourself" billy locked in a padded solitary confinement box, back in his normal, bald, superzero clothes (but not his superzero costume) "heart strung is your heart frayed and empty" james, from the waist up, against a blurry, cloudy, sunset, painted background (like in old movies). it's windy, he's dressed likea cross between himself in the tt vid and a beatle on the cover of sgt. peppers. at "frayed" he opens his coat, and a frayed cloth heart is on his chest....and then it blows away (wind from the left, to the right) "cause it's hard luck when no one umderstand your love" james, camera in the ground near his feet, sitting in normal james clothes on a step coming down from a porch in the bronx (or somewhere like that). it's fall--dead leaves on the ground. it's windy, too--wind comning toward the camera. james has a faraway look in his eyes.... "it's unsung, and i say..." same scene, but james looks at the camera...at the end of the line, a leaf blows acroos the camera and the next scene follow it.... "goodnight, my love, to every hour in every day/goodnite, always, to all that's pure that's in your heart" james and billy where paul and mr. harrison are on the cover of "the beatles 1967-1970" (dressed the same, too) singing these lines "[interlude music]" scene: beach, calm waves lapping at the shore....lots of sand (in fact, it's all sand); flat, too.....there's a big-ass grand piano and some guy playing it...in a tux, barefoot. sitting in the sand....a walrus & humpty dumpty (from i am the walrus) swaying to the music "goodnite, may your dreams be so happy and your" jimmy, in front of the building on the cover of hey jude. standing where george is, dressed to match. he's alone, calm day--looks just like the cover "head lite, with wishes of a sandman and a" same scene, but jimmy gone and d'arcy in paul's place. "nite lite, be careful not to let the bedbugs" jimmy again, same scene "sleep tite, nestled in your covers" d'arcy again...same scene (ack! rut!) "the sun shines, but i don't" d'acry and jimmy, sitting (sort of a lotus position) in the middle of "abbey road" :) barefoot, dressed as hippies. big, cartoony, shiny sun above them "a silver rain will wash away" same scene, but a (yup, you guessed it) silver rain starts falling...gently "the sun shines, but i don't/a silver rain will wash away" whole band, same scene....billy and james on the outsides. still with the sun and the rain (but both at the same time...it's been raining since jimmy and d'arcy told it to) "the pain" jimmy sort of fades away as he says this....then, when he's done, the whole scene fades with him, fades into.... "and you can tell, it's just as well [x2]" billy in his yellow submarine again....but it's sort of a rocket...he's sticking his head out the window, looking back at us while he sings this...he's "going to the moon" "goodnite, my love, to every hour in every day/goonite, always, to all that's pure that's in your heart" the whole band on the cover of 1967-1970, in this order (left to right): jimmy, james, billy, d'arcy "[outro music, pt. 1--not just the piano]" the band, playing along, at the start of this road that streches across the flat plain. piano guy on the right side of the road, under a leafless tree. humpty&the walrus sitting next to each other in the tree. "[outro music, pt. 2--piano solo]" the band starts walking away....here it gets complicated...every few seconds, the band (walking at a slow, steady, relaxed pace) jumps ahead 50 feet or so. like a skip in a record, only on the film. this happens when they stop playing and piano dude starts his solo....it takes maybe 15-20 seconds for the band to disappear piano dude plays for another 5 second like he was....then humpty and the walrus do the skip thing to the bar (which just appeared) next to piano dude. the walrus buys humpty, now in drag, a drink. they look like they're from some old sinatra-ish movie...you know, tux, pearls, bow tie, the works. the sit there and flirt while piano dude finishes his solo.......fade to black.
