By Starlight by Mustique@concentric.net Setting-tall hotel in a turn-of-the-century city. New Year's Eve. Characters-man and woman dancing on a balcony, a man a balcony below standing by himself. The band is in the next room over, no balcony. Billy is looking out the window, James is sitting on the bed and D'arcy is sitting on a chair. Intro-Overview shot of hotel, slowly coming in closer until it focuses on a shot of the man and woman dancing. They both have dark hair, but the woman's face is obscured, leaning agaisnt the man's shoulder. Camera pans down for a shot of the man on the balcony below. He had light hair and is leaning agaisnt the rail, looking lonely. He stares longingly at a locket in his hand. Next a shot of a hotel across the street and a banner that says "Happy New Year." Angle back across the street for a shot of the band. First D'arcy, then James, then Billy. All are dressed in turn-of-the-century clothing. Focus on Billy as he sings, "By starlight I'll kiss you." Music, quick shot of the man and woman staring at each other, absorbed in each other. "And promise to be your one and only." Man mouths the words "one and only" to the woman, whose face is still obscured. "I'll make you feel happy." They begin dancing again, and he dips her over the railing, and they laugh. "And leave you to be lost in mine." She leans her head agaisnt his shoulder and they look very content. "And where will we go?" Shot of man and woman pointing over the harbor below. "What will we do?" They stare at each other with a kind of conforting, confirming glance. "Soon said I, will know." Fireworks explode over the harbor, causing a delighted glance from each. "And are you just like me." Shot of the two with wine glasses, toasting each other and looking very happy. "Dead eyes, dead eyes, are you just like me?" They lean agaisnt each other, wine glasses in hand. The woman drops hers and it falls. They look down, startled. The woman's face is always obscured. Switch to shot of Billy singing, "Her eyes, her eyes, were as vacant as the seas, yeah." During the line, we have shots of each of the band members, who all look very indifferent and distracted. Empty. "Dead eyes, dead eyes, are you just like me?" Pan down to a shot of the light-haired man on his balcony, looking forlornly at the locket. We see the woman's wine glass fall and shatter at the ground at his feet. He looks up indifferently, as if too engrossed in his sorrow to care. "And all along, we knew we'd carry on." Shot of man and woman laughing, exchanging loving glances. "Just to belong." Pan down to man on balcony, looking out over the harbor. "By starlight I know you." We see a shot of the locket itself. In it is a picture of a woman with curly dark hair, brown eyes and pale skin. She is dressed in a formal green dress. "As lovely as a wish granted true." A tear slips down the man's cheek as he is obviously heartbroken. "My life has been empty," The man mouths the words. "My life has been untrue." Flashback to same man and the woman in the locket at a dance, exchanging angry words. "And does she really know, who I really am?" Woman storms out, and man is left, looking shocked. "Does she really me at last?" Back to man on balcony, as the line plays camera pans up to couple on balcony. Man is leaning agaisnt rail, holding the woman's hands, whose face is still obscured. "And are you just like me?" Rail gives way and man falls from the balcony. "Dead eyes, dead eyes-" Woman races back into room to rush down the stairs. "-are you just like me?" Light-haired man sees the other man falling and rushes into his room to go help. Shot of Billy singing, "Her eyes, her eyes, were as vacant as the seas, yeah." During this line, D'arcy and James gather to the window and all three look down on the scene. On "seas" switch to ground below as woman rushes from the hotel entrace to the crumpled body of the man. "Dead eyes, dead eyes, are you just like me?" Light-haired man runs from entrace to the injured, now dying, man. The woman looks up to him and for the first time we see her face. It is the woman in the locket. She is even wearing the same dress. "And are you just like me?" Band walks by the scene and glance at the chracters as they walk by. "And are you just like me?" Light-haired man and woman stare at each other in shock, and camera pans up for a shot of the night sky as fireworks explode. "And are you just like me, ooh," Shot of harbor as band walks by a wire fence. We can see something gold caught on one of the wires. Band walks by the object and out of sight. Ending music and oohs Pan in on object and we can see it is the man's locket. Focus on woman's picture until fade out.
