March 4, 1997

Greetings from Ye Olde Scratchee Recorde Labele (who have now decided to expand to the cutting edge of Rennaicaince (sp?) Fairs)!

Yes yes ya'll, to the beat ya'll, Scratchie HQ is absolutely alive with activity. All of your favorites have somethin' doin' in March, and here's what's up.

Fulflej are busy guys these days! They've got a brand-spankin' new song sitting there at your local radio station just waiting for y'all to call up and request it. Its called "Shift Into Turbo" and will be at radio stations this week. Why the goofy title you may ask? Well, the song just happens to be for the new, cleverly titled Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, which will be out on March 25. Apparently the producer of the film caught Fulflej at a show and noticed MC No Joke G's cool-ass "Power Rangers" backpack and asked them to do a song for the film. So there you have it Fulflej's "Shift Into Turbo" as the title track for the new Power Rangers movie! And if that isn't enough, Fulflej will be touring as well! Look for a west coast tour with That Dog in April. We'll send you the dates when we get 'em.

The long awaited Frogs EP, Starjob, will be out at the beginning of May - yes, it will really happen this time! They're playing Chicago's Empty Bottle with Ex-Chittle on March 29, and if more dates come about, we'll let you know.

Phoenix Thunderstone are recording right now and gearing up for a tour. They put on a legendary show, the tapes of which are a staple around these parts - look for them in a town near you!

March 19 Chicago, IL Fireside Bowl with Freak Magnet and Fondly
March 22 Detroit, MI The Impound
March 23 De Kalb, IL Otto's
March 24 Grand Rapids, MI The Intersection Lounge
March 28 Des Moines, IA The Safari
March 31 Oklahoma City, OK The Iguana Lounge
April 1 Albuquerque, NM Fat Chance
April 2 Mesa, AZ Hollywood Alley
April 4 San Diego Velvet

More dates might be added soon, and, as always, we'll let you know. You lucky Chicagoans should not, under any circumstances, miss that Fireside Bowl show! Phoenix Thunderstone will play with fellow Scratchie artists Freak Magnet, whose 7", "Clean Shave", is out now, and Fondly, who are in the process of recording their first Scratchie release. Fondly will play Chicago's Cubby Bear later this month, so those of you who are of legal age would be wise to catch that one as well.

But not all of the Scratchie fun is reserved for us here in Chicago! If you're near Austin, TX, the South by Southwest music conference will feature not ONLY Fulflej and The Frogs, but the incredible Mike Ladd as well! Fulflej and The Frogs are playing on March 13 at Liberty Lunch. Fulflej goes on at 9 P.M. and The Frogs go on at 10 P.M. Mike Ladd, who, as Scratchie staffer Ajay put it, "is so good that he'll make you wet your pants," is playing Waterloo Ice Brewing Company at 11 P.M. on March 15. His album, Easy Listening for Armageddon, comes out in May.

On a sad note, those of you on the west coast who were eagerly anticipating Chainsaw Kittens opening for They Might Be Giants - well, they had to cancel. Life goes on. However, they are playing a free show at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK on March 26. If you can't get out to Norman, though, quench your thirst for Kittens by checking out Geoff Peveto's Chainsaw Kittens homepage at www.flash.net/~soup/kittenhome.html.

On the Scratchie internet front, the pictures from the Scratchie Christmas party are finally up on the website. Check out www.scratchie.com for photos of James playing with Chainsaw Kittens, D'Arcy singing with Fulflej, and assorted debauchery from the now legendary xmas show in Chicago. And those of you who have AOL access should check out the Scratchie board in the Alternative Labels section of the Music Message Center (keyword: MMC). There's lots of up-to-the-minute information posted in between newsletters.

Finally, we'd like to thank all of you who sent in responses to the survey in the last newsletter. Your input was invaluable, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know what we're doing right and what we can improve on.

As always, thanks so much for all your support!

Jeremy, D'Arcy, Kerry, James, Adam, and Jamie
