Smashing Pumpkins selling like hotcakes

The Smashing Pumpkins' double album "Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness" has been certified at 6 million units---tying them with Michael Jackson's History album for bragging rights to the best selling double-CD release in industry history.

The album, which garnered both critical and commercial acclaim upon its release, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard Magazine's Top 200 and has maintained a top 20 chart position since its release. Worldwide Popularity

"Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" has also been certified platinum in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, and New Zealand and quadruple platinum in Canada. Gold certifications have taken place in the UK, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, and Silver certification in The Czech Republic. Media Recognition

The album was named Album of the Year by Time magazine. Readers of Rolling Stone and Request Magazine voted it Album of the Year and Best Album.

The band´s 1991 debut album ``Gish`` has been certified gold with US sales over 800,000 units. ``Pisces Iscariot`` a collection of B-sides and raritieshas exceeded platinum sales levels.

And the band´s 1993 album ``Siamese Dream´´ is certified quadruple platinum and continues to maintain a Top 10 chart position on the Billboard Magazine Catalogue chart.

The Smashing Pumpkins are currently in Europe in the midst of a world tour that is expected to hit the US this summer.
