Hello Kitty Kat by katenolan@msn.com mediaeval theme (clothing, etc..) this song, i think because of the feminine perspective, had to have all boys. so d'arcy is in drag (a very believable drag---like in todayif youd never seen it before and didnt know you _might_ think james was actually a girl...so you kinda think d'arcy's a guy) the entire video is in somewhat hazy footage, not quite dreamlike, but not grainy or shaky either. but its like there's mist or fog everywhere, or you're in a really smoky room. this makes the bright colours less bedazzling. opening scene: rain on a grey castle, the flags on the towers, once bright red & yellow, are torn and tattered, faded. the rain is thick, the clouds cover all. the castle stands lonely on a once green hillside, rolling hills all around, but no paths, moat village. the camera zooma in rapidly, like climbing the hill to get there, about every 3 seconds til about :19, where billy begins to sing. by that time you've hit (very strongly) into the thick dark, wooden door. the hinges and knobs etc. are rusty & faded brass. at start of first verse ("say hello..") you are roaming thru a dark, stone-walled passageway. the light of a lone candle is glowing off the walls. the person whos perspective the camera is showing trips, the light goes out sharply and the scene fades to black right before the next line starts. for "i should go..." d'arcy, as a man, is on a throne- she is king. she sits, obviously bored with everything around her. her crown & throne were once bright gold, but have faded like all else. the view is only of her on the throne, but the hall is obviously vast and empty. "she wants to bleed...." james standing on top of one of the towers. he draws his bow and fires an arrow. he is then shown with an arrow piercing his heart, his hands, palms in, fingers spread, not touching his chest but to the sides of the arrow, putting it on display. his head tilted to one side, his expression is of being used to it, sick of it. "but i aim.." billy sitting in a room with a canopy bed, some other period furniture. there is a mirror across from the bed. he has two arch-topped stone windows, except there are no windows, just openings onto two little balconies. he is sitting on the ledge of the railing on the right one. one leg on the floor, staring out at the endless hills. he is wearing what seems to be a nightgown, dusty white, long-sleeved long (btw-billy is bald) when chorus starts, he turns, he is now wearing all black, a long, flowing black cape. his expression is determined. he strides across the room, to the left of the camera, which then follows to see him open the door, exit and *literally* dissapear down the hallway. as in, you would be able to see him walking away if he hadn't vanished. "i don't wanna be.." 3 mediaeval boys chasing each other. determined in their game. beating each other up as little boys do. billy (w/black cape) watches thru a small doorway in the corner. "who is sorry now..." billy enters the room and it turns darker. the boys stop their game and look up, is that relief we glimpse on their faces? billy holds out his palm and a single flame-orange& blue- leaps up. he turns his hand upward (palm facing out) and the boys become encircled in flames. they are still not frightened. billy looks almost dissapointed his trick didnt work, and lets his hand fall. he dissapears, and the rings of fire go with him. but the boys are stone. "slit my wrists..." d'arcy is in the bedroom billy was in before. she stands on the ledge and leaps out, arms spread. the rain has stopped. she becomes a dove, and soars upwards, the camera following her ((d'arcy is still male)) the view is then from james on the tower as the dove appears in view. james draws another arrow and pierces the dove, which falls out of sight, past the rise of a distant hill where the mist has cleared long enough for you to see a golden-red sunset ((but still pale)) james reaches desperately out over the ledge, realizing what he's just done. but it is all in vain, the dove hits the ground, and a thin white dust rises as the dove-d'arcy-the king is no more. "yeah, yeah, you know.." two knights, expressionless, put a robe on james, the crown, and he sits on d'arcys throne. he is not happy, tho this had been what he wanted. he looks troubled. billy, who had been standing unnoticed to the side, crosses over. he draws out of his cape a jewelled dagger which he places in james' hand and then leans over and kisses his ear and whispers "i'll always stay" "i don't wanna be.." billy steps back, grins, turns, and leaves. "who is sorry now..." james, in disgust, throws the dagger to the ground, rips off the robe, and throws the crown on the floor. he swiftly crosses the room, exits down a hallway, and finds himself at the door. he throws it open and walks outside, tho an icy wind is blowing him back. he walks slowly down the hill and up to the next. he stands on top, his hands fists, eyes closed, and screams at the last "now", as the rain starts again, harder than before. "my love is weakness..." billy standing in the courtyard in the center of the castle, ((he is smiling faintly)) it is raining all around him, but not on him. he reaches out a finger and as rain hits it it becomes stone. "my love is sadness..." d'arcy, a ghost of the king, standing on the tower, watching james explode & fall apart ((not literally, mentally)) on the opposite hill. she looks sad, like she has regrets. james collapses, sobbing to the ground. "my teeth are razor sharp..." billy appears standing next to james. james stands up, looking confused, helpless& hopeless at billy. billy grasps his hand and they both dissapear. "i'll be with you.." d'arcys ghost is still watching this from the tower. she looks saddened that they are gone, and turns to go back inside. 2:38-:49, d'arcy is wandering the halls, casting her own faint white-with a bluish-cast glow. she comes upon billys room and looks in to see james lying on the bed, with billy leaning over him. james is not asleep, but looks worn out and sick. he doesnt see the king's ghost. billys watches her carefully and shakes his head "no." d'arcy keeps walking. 2:50-3:05, james sits up and looks in the mirror that is across from the bed. all he sees is billy, nodding once & a quick smile. james jumps up from the bed, refusing to believe he's dead, so billy draws out the same jewelled dagger from his cape. he hands it to james witha n "ok, try it" look. james holds the dagger, but already disgusted throws it against the wall, shattering it. billy gives him a raised-eyebros "ok, its your choice" look and dissappears. 3:06-:21, james runs thru the halls, stumbling, and finds a small chapel. for a split second, the ghost of king d'arcy appears at the altar and james runs forward, but it dissapears in an instant. now frightened, he bakcs away slowly. dark vines begin to grow over the plain white cross hanging above the altar, until it is entirely covered with them, and the same with the plain white altar. vines began to grow out from the walls, along the few pews, over the windows. james turns and walks out. "yeah, yeah, you know.." billy closes the door to the rain outside. he pulls across a log, barring it shut. he walks quickly to the hall and sits in the throne. " i don't wanna be.." the ghost of king d'arcy enters, looking pissed. billy sees her and picks up the crown from the floor and puts it on. d'arcy strides over to billy and roughly takes the crown off. she tries to put it on her head, but because she's a ghost, it merely falls thru her body and hits the floor. billy laughs. d'arcy peers at him as if seeing him for the first time, as james enters not looking fully recovered. he gapes, staring in shock because he sees d'arcy. she turns and looks at him woefully, almost longing, but with distance& dissapointment. billy disspears and reappears by james' side, whispering in his ear. james nods, and walks, thru d'arcy who whirls around and watches him sit on the throne and place the crown on his head. then to billy's surprise, he takes it off and places it gently on d'arcys head, so it stays. 3:55-4:21, d'arcy glows a little bit brighter, the fades into nonexistance, smiling--witht he crown. james gets up, looking for pity, but billy smiles knowingly, as if thats what he wanted all along. james walks past him, up the stairs, to billy's bedroom. he closes his eyes and then steps in front of the mirror. he opens them, expecting to see a reflection, but none is there. he turns, confused, to billy who is standing in the doorway. billy crosses over, also looking a bit confused/worried and looks in the mirror. he has no reflection either. frightened, they gently take the mirror off the wall and put it face-down on a table. then they notice vines beginning to grow out of the back of the mirror. they step back, and watch as the room begins to fill with vines. billy looks angry, but james is on the border between indifferent and thankful. the windows get covered over and all is dark. last few notes-the chapel, covered over in vines, the blockes door, overgrown. and then the castle from the outside, and the crowned ghost of king d'arcy standing on the opposite hillside watching.
